The Marathon!

What a day, what a race, what a city!

Everything was just perfect, the weather, the track, the company, the atmosphere and of course the effort done during the last 14 weeks!

Below you can see my pace (see the last 7 km/4 Miles, just crazy :P)

Official final time: 3h24m48s (5m12s faster than expected!)

So far, the best race of my life :)

Now it time to relax, chill-out and starting thinking in the new goals.

Any suggestion?

PS. Below a couple of nice pics of the runners!

2 days, 2 hours, 41 minutes....

And yes, here I am. In NY "ready" to run my second Marathon (http://www.ingnycmarathon.org)!

My only (and real) goal is to finish the race (if you ever ran a Marathon you will probably understand why...). But this ocasion I will try to improve my previous time (4h2m - Marathon Amsterdam'2010).
--> Personal target is ~ 3h30m, but I will be more than happy if I can stop the clock  ~ 3h40m as well!

I know that I did not update this blog during the last months, but now that I have new laptop :) (new MacBook Pro) and that I will have more time (no more trainings...uuueeee) I hope I will have the time to update you with some interesting posts (or at least I will try!).

FYI, find below link to the training schedule that I followed during the last months:

2 days, 2 hours, 25 minutes....

#GiveFirst

One of the most important ideas in our most important cast for careers - Building A Network - is the idea of giving first.   Even if you don’t ever think your efforts will be reciprocated, giving first is the way to develop a foundation for a relationship.

Here’s three ways to give first, even to people you don’t know yet:

Smile.  Smiling is a universal human greeting.  It says ‘I’m pleased to meet you and I want our interaction to be a good one’.  You can even smile on the phone and it’ll change the interaction.

Be gracious.  When someone apologizes for holding you up, or their computer being slow, or cuts in front of you in line, be gracious. Tell them, ‘it’s fine, I have that problem all the time’ or ‘don’t worry, I have time’.  It takes tension out of the situation, and that’s a kind thing to do.

Give a compliment.  As you end an interaction, give a compliment.  My favorite is ‘thank you for making that easy for me’, but I also use ‘thank you for being patient with my questions’.    Again, it takes any tension out of the conversation and leaves the person with a positive feeling about you.

Even if you don’t care yourself about the ‘warm fuzzies’ (I don’t either!) giving first will increase the number of positive interactions you have.  Try it and let us know how it goes.

March, half marathon Paris

Already March!
And that means that next weekend I will be in Paris running the 1/2 marathon :)
After a good couple of weeks with long trainings, and today a fast race (10km 40min26sec); I am ready!
But this time there is not any specific goal...the only objective is to finish in front of Daniele Vinci :) and to enjoy the race and the entire weekend with friends! (http://www.semideparis.com)

Before the weekend (and I expect that everyone already knows that) we will have in Barcelona the MCW2013 (http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/); such an event will bring together some of the world's biggest industry players in the wireless and mobile space. Let's all make sure that those guys get a good impression of our city and our apps (IT) companies!
Of course http://quartprimera.com/ fully booked!

@VittyArtigas still travelling around (lucky bastard!) check out his latest news here: lavoltadenvitty.blogspot.com

Thursday @Vueling to Belgium and Friday @Thalys to Paris!

Convenience vs Inconvenience*

I'm a big fan of using technology to make my life easier.  I have Flycut, which saves my last 40 cuts to paste.  I have Lastpass which allows me to save my passwords, fill in forms with multiple addresses and a bunch of other things.  I always save my profile on websites so that I don’t have to enter all my details later.  There’s some risk to this, I know, but the time it saves me is worth it.

Recently though, I lost my wallet and had to have my bank cards reordered.  Every time I went to buy anything ANYWHERE online, the payment didn’t go through and I had to enter all those details again.  None of my repeating payments went through and in some cases I actually had to write a check, find an envelope and put a stamp on it.  Ugh.

While I was in this period, I was quite grumpy about it.  It was very inconvenient.  Later, when I was over my funk, I thought about all the time I’ve saved over the last year of having my original cards, and all the time I save when I set up my email, my documents, my phone, and every other technological wonder in my house.  It’s an inconvenient to have to redo some parts of that, but it’s much less than the time I save overall.  Stephen Covey calls setting yourself up to be efficient ‘sharpening the saw’.  Now my saw is sharp again, and I’m back to peak efficiency.  It turned out to be just a minor inconvenience.  What can you do today to make tomorrow more efficient?

SO TRUE!

Belgium / EU / #findyourway

Yes, after 24h I understood why I came back to Spain (Tarragona) around a year ago...the weather!
Let me be honest, the weather is important because it change the way you do things, but now a days other things are also important...and the economic situation is one of them. Things here are different....this is EU! And it's good to disconnect about our reality, the Spanish shitty realty!

We are young! My generation is ready to change things, but they (the government) does not allow us and will not!

Probably is time for new challenges...in the EU?! :)

New day, Good day

Monday, is that a god day?
It is, but not that good for the Ibex: El Ibex 35 perdiĆ³ el 0,6%, hasta 8.672,5: calma tras la ruptura de las resistencias  for the rest...just same shit! Good running (~14km) and getting ready for "el clasico" of coming Wednesday

Tip/paradox of the week:

"Change"*

You may have noticed that Linkedin has recently started allowing you to endorse others for skills.  One of the ironies of this is that I have been endorsed by several people for ‘change management’ and anyone who knows me well, knows I hate change.  It’s provided Mark and I with several laughs since it’s been going on.

Unfortunately for me, change is constant.  Despite my preference that world only change at my pace, the world seems not to be listening – and when you work at Manager Tools that’s only exacerbated.  Over time I’ve learned to deal better with change.  Here’s my three rules of dealing with change:

Change invariably brings good things.  When I look back on the changes that have disturbed me most, I realize that after a ‘shaking out’ period, change has always been for the better.  A different job was more fun, a different boss taught me different skills, and learning new skill was exciting and rewarding.

My distress is about change, not THIS change.  Without delving deeply into my psyche, I realize that I’m just not good with change in general.  That doesn’t mean that THIS change in particular is a bad thing.  If I can put my distress aside for a few minutes, can I see why it’s necessary or desirable?

Can I get ahead of this change?  I don’t like change being imposed on me.  But if I can find a way of being part of it – writing a document, developing a routine for it, meeting the people ahead of time, I start to feel better.

Change is inevitable.  If you’re like me, start learning to deal with it, even if you’ll never like it.
