After 3 years being denied to run the New York Marathon looks like finally I will get in!

I will not have final confirmation until April 24th but I am confident that this year I AM IN.

#GiveFirst

One of the most important ideas in our most important cast for careers - Building A Network - is the idea of giving first.   Even if you don’t ever think your efforts will be reciprocated, giving first is the way to develop a foundation for a relationship.

Here’s three ways to give first, even to people you don’t know yet:

Smile.  Smiling is a universal human greeting.  It says ‘I’m pleased to meet you and I want our interaction to be a good one’.  You can even smile on the phone and it’ll change the interaction.

Be gracious.  When someone apologizes for holding you up, or their computer being slow, or cuts in front of you in line, be gracious. Tell them, ‘it’s fine, I have that problem all the time’ or ‘don’t worry, I have time’.  It takes tension out of the situation, and that’s a kind thing to do.

Give a compliment.  As you end an interaction, give a compliment.  My favorite is ‘thank you for making that easy for me’, but I also use ‘thank you for being patient with my questions’.    Again, it takes any tension out of the conversation and leaves the person with a positive feeling about you.

Even if you don’t care yourself about the ‘warm fuzzies’ (I don’t either!) giving first will increase the number of positive interactions you have.  Try it and let us know how it goes.

March, half marathon Paris

Already March!
And that means that next weekend I will be in Paris running the 1/2 marathon :)
After a good couple of weeks with long trainings, and today a fast race (10km 40min26sec); I am ready!
But this time there is not any specific goal...the only objective is to finish in front of Daniele Vinci :) and to enjoy the race and the entire weekend with friends! (http://www.semideparis.com)

Before the weekend (and I expect that everyone already knows that) we will have in Barcelona the MCW2013 (http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/); such an event will bring together some of the world's biggest industry players in the wireless and mobile space. Let's all make sure that those guys get a good impression of our city and our apps (IT) companies!
Of course http://quartprimera.com/ fully booked!

@VittyArtigas still travelling around (lucky bastard!) check out his latest news here: lavoltadenvitty.blogspot.com

Convenience vs Inconvenience*

I'm a big fan of using technology to make my life easier.  I have Flycut, which saves my last 40 cuts to paste.  I have Lastpass which allows me to save my passwords, fill in forms with multiple addresses and a bunch of other things.  I always save my profile on websites so that I don’t have to enter all my details later.  There’s some risk to this, I know, but the time it saves me is worth it.

Recently though, I lost my wallet and had to have my bank cards reordered.  Every time I went to buy anything ANYWHERE online, the payment didn’t go through and I had to enter all those details again.  None of my repeating payments went through and in some cases I actually had to write a check, find an envelope and put a stamp on it.  Ugh.

While I was in this period, I was quite grumpy about it.  It was very inconvenient.  Later, when I was over my funk, I thought about all the time I’ve saved over the last year of having my original cards, and all the time I save when I set up my email, my documents, my phone, and every other technological wonder in my house.  It’s an inconvenient to have to redo some parts of that, but it’s much less than the time I save overall.  Stephen Covey calls setting yourself up to be efficient ‘sharpening the saw’.  Now my saw is sharp again, and I’m back to peak efficiency.  It turned out to be just a minor inconvenience.  What can you do today to make tomorrow more efficient?

SO TRUE!
